   Ali Morgan

Ali Morgan has been painting and drawing for as long as she can remember.  Watching her mother cover huge canvases with oils, and the smell of turpentine filling the air, is one of her earliest memories.  Her excitement in the creative process comes mainly from surface and texture, abstract shapes and colour.  The work in this exhibition is based on boats, particularly fishing boats along the Suffolk coast.  This has become a major project of exploration into the construction and sturucutre, as well as connections with fish and the industry that surround the east coast of England.  She started by working into cardboard as this gave her the potential to re-create the history within the surfaces of boats.  She then began salvaging pieces of wood and old pieces of boat, to work back into them.  She has interviewed and photographed fishermen, and incorporated silk-screened images of them, which is the beginning of the spiritual links between man and sea.
